National Parks of The U.S.

The United States has 63 protected national parks that are operated by the National Park Service which is an agency of the federal government of the United States. These parks attract all the people around the world. There are millions of people coming to the US to explore the parks. The national parks not only give an amazing view but also an adventurous experience.

Here we have listed all the National Parks in the US.

  • Bryce Canyon: Bryce Canyon National Park is located in southern Utah. It has spire-shaped rock formations. The park is 35,835.08 acres. It has multi colored sandstone hoodoos which are formed by erosion
  • Arches National Park: The park is located 5 miles north of Moab in the state of Utah. It has the world’s largest concentration of natural sandstone arches. The park has over 2,000 arches located within the park’s 76,518 acres.
  • Canyonlands National Park: The park located in southeastern Utah near the town of Moab. You’ll find many other amazing rock formations in Canyonland. In 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Public Law 88-590 establishing 257,640 acres as Canyonlands National Park
  • Zion National Park: The park is located in southwestern Utah near the town of Springdale. The park is 147,242.66 acres. Zion also has 2,000-foot Navajo Sandstone cliffs, pine and juniper clad slopes.
  • Capitol Reef National Park: The park is located in Utah’s south-central desert. The park covers a total area of 241,904 acres. Reef reference to the Rocky, Coral-Like Landscape. The Waterpocket Fold in Capitol Reef makes the landscape unique. 
  • Virgin Islands National Park: The park is a group of Caribbean islands and islets. The park has valleys and beaches with 7,000 plus acres of amazing landscape.
  • Shenandoah National Park: The park is part of the Great Appalachian Valley in Virginia. The oldest rocks in Park have an approximate age of 1.1 billion years. Shenandoah is perfect for people who love bird watching.
  • Mount Rainier National Park: The park is located in west-central Washington state. Mount Rainier surrounds glacier-capped. It is the highest volcanic peak in the contiguous United States.
  • North Cascades National Park: The Park is in northern Washington State. North Cascades covers a total area of 505,000 acres. The Park features the rugged mountain peaks. It has the most expansive glacial system.
  • New River Gorge National Park: The park is located in southern West Virginia in the Appalachian Mountains. New River is the second oldest river in the world and is estimated to be between 10 and 360 million years old.
  • Grand Teton National Park: The park located in the northwestern region of the state of Wyoming. The Grand Teton is the highest peak in the Teton mountain range which is 13,770 feet above sea level, and other peaks in this range are over 12,000 feet. 
  • Olympic National Park: The park is located in the Olympic Peninsula, State of Washington. Olympic National covers 922,651 acres. The park has rock features, and a stunning landscape 
  • Yellowstone National Park: The park was the world’s first national park which is in the United States. Yellowstone National Park was established on 1 March 1872. Yellowstone has worlds half of the geysers with more than 500 active geysers. 
  • Guadalupe Mountains National Park: The park is located in the Guadalupe Mountains, east of El Paso, Texas. The park covers a total area of 86,416 acres. Guadalupe Mountains was declared a national park on October 15, 1966.
  • Big Bend National Park: The park is located in southwest Texas, United States, and includes. The park was officially established on June 12, 1944. Big Bend covers a total area of 801,163 acres.
  • Wind Cave National Park: The park is located in South Dakota, United States. Wind Cave was established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903, it was the seventh national park and the first cave to be a national park in the world. The park has incredible wildlife.
  • Badlands National Park: The park is located in South Dakota, United States. Badlands has amazing landscapes with steep canyons span layered rock formations and towering spires. The park covers a total area of 244,300 acres. Senator Norbeck established Badlands National Park on February 11, 1929.
  • Congaree National Park: The park is located in central South Carolina, United States. Congaree covers a total area of 22,200 acres. The park has its unique bottomland hardwood forest. 
  • Crater Lake National Park: The park is located in southern Oregon, United States. Crater Lake is famous for its clear and deep blue water. Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the U.S at 1,943 feet. Crater Lake is covered in snow from October through June with an average annual snowfall of 44 feet.
  • Cuyahoga Valley National Park: The park is located in Ohio between the cities of Cleveland and Akron, United States. Cuyahoga Valley covers a total area of 33,000 acres.  The United States Congress and President Gerald Ford established the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in 1974.
  • Great Smoky Mountains National Park: The park is a mountain range along the Tennessee North Carolina border in the southeastern United States. Great Smoky Mountains known for its wildflowers, autumn colors, waterfalls, and black bears. The park was established by Franklin D. Roosevelt on September 2, 1940.
  • Theodore Roosevelt National Park: The park is located in western North Dakota, United States. Theodore Roosevelt National Park was established on April 25, 1947, to honor Roosevelt. The park is the home for a variety of plants and animals
  • White Sands National Park: The park is located in New Mexico, United StatesThe park was established on January 18, 1933, by President Herbert Hoover. The sand at the park is almost pure gypsum. White Sands park covers 145,762 acres
  • Carlsbad Caverns National Park: The park is located in Carlsbad, United States. The park covers over 46,766 acres. The park has more than 119 limestone caves that are outstanding formation, profusion, and diversity. The  Carlsbad Caverns are 3.9 million to 4 million years old.
  • Great Basin National Park: The park is located in Nevada, United States. The Great Basin covers over 77,100 acres. The Great Basin was established as a National Park in 1986.   • Glacier National Park: The park is located in the state of Montana, United States. Glacier is the 10th national park, The park preserves 1 million acres of glacier-carved peaks and valleys. Glacier National Park was established on 11 May 1910.
  • Gateway Arch National Park: The park is located in St. Louis, United States. The Gateway Arch is a 630-foot monument in St. Louis. The Arch is the tallest national monument in the United States.
  • Voyageurs National Park: The park is located in northern Minnesota, near the Canadian border. Voyageurs covers over 218,200 acres, it was established as a national park on 8 April 1975. The park is known for its water resources and attracts canoeists, kayakers, other boaters, and fishermen.
  • Isle Royale National Park: The park is an island of the Great Lakes located in the northwest of Lake Superior and Michigan. Isle Royale National Park includes the island and the 450 surrounding smaller islands. Isle Royale is the only national park in the state of Michigan. There are only 19 mammal species in the park.
  • Acadia National Park: The park is located in Maine, United States. Acadia covers over a 47,000-acre. Acadia was established as a national park on 19 January 1929 by George B. Dorr. The park was the first national park to be created east of the Mississippi River and it is the only national park in the Northeast.
  • Indiana Dunes National Park: The park covers over 15,000 acres. Indiana Dunes has more than 1,100 flowering plant species and ferns and more than 350 species of bird.
  • Mammoth Cave National Park: The park is located in west-central Kentucky. The park covers a total area of 52,835 acres. Mammoth Cave was established as a national park on July 1, 1941. The park has the world’s longest known cave system. Mammoth Cave is a limestone with more than 400 miles.
  • Hawaii Volcanoes National Park: The park is located on Hawaii Island. Hawaii Volcanoes established on August 1, 1916. The park covers over 335,259 acres. The island has five volcanoes of which two are still active Kilauea and Mauna Loa.
  • Haleakala National Park: The park is located on the island of Maui in the state of Hawaii. Haleakala covers an area of 33,265 acres. On 1 July 1961 Thomas A. Jaggar, a scientist at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory established Haleakala as a national park. Haleakala means “House of the Sun”. Viewing the sunrise from the Haleakala is a popular activity in the park.
  • Everglades National Park: The park is located in Florida, United States. The park covers over 1,508,976 acres. Ernest Coe, a landscape architect, established Everglades as a national park in 1928. Both alligators and crocodiles live in Everglades. The park is one of the largest wetlands in the world.
  • Dry Tortugas National Park: The park is located in the Gulf of Mexico, west of Key West, Florida. The park covers a total area of 64,700 acres. Dry Tortugas was established as a national park on October 26, 1992. You can reach the park only by seaplane or boat.
  • Biscayne National Park: The park is located in Florida, United States. Biscayne National Park covers 172,971 acres. Dante Fascell in 28 June 1980 established Biscayne National Monument to protect a rare combination of terrestrial, marine and amphibious. The park has more than 200 species of fish, pelagic birds, whales and hard corals.
  • Rocky Mountain National Park: The park is located in Colorado, United States. The park is known for the Trail Ridge Road and the Old Fall River Road. Rocky Mountain covers over 265,461 acres. Rocky Mountain was officially established as a National Park by President Woodrow Wilson in 1915. It is one of the nation’s highest national parks With 7,860 feet to 14,259 feet height.
  • Mesa Verde National Park: The park is located in Mesa Verde, CO, United States. Mesa Verde covers over 52,485 acres. President Theodore Roosevelt established Mesa Verde National Park On June 29, 1906, to “preserve the works of man”. The park is to preserve the heritage of the Ancestral Pueblo people. 
  • Great Sand Dunes National Park: The park is located in Colorado, United States. The park covers 107,342 acres. The park was established as Great Sand Dunes National Park by President Herbert Hoove on March 17, 1932.The main dunefield in the park covers an area of 30 square miles.
  • Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: The park is located in western Colorado, United States. The park covers an area of 47 square miles. Black Canyon was established as a national park in 1999. Black Canyon’s Painted Wall is the tallest cliff in Colorado.
  • Yosemite National Park: The park is located in California, United States. The park covers an area of 748,436 acres.Yosemite was established as a national park by an Act of Congress on October 1, 1890. The granite rock in Yosemite glows like fire at sunset. The park has more than 4000 species.
  • Sequoia National Park: The park is located in the Sierra Nevada, east-central California. The park covers over 404, 063 acres. The park was established on September 25, 1890, which is the United States’s second national park. The park has the thickest bark tree in the world. 
  • Redwood National Park: The park is located in northernmost coastal California. The park covers over  132,000 acres. Redwood National Park was established in 1968 after rapid loss of trees. The park is known for the large number of coastal and old growth dawn redwood trees, and also giant sequoia trees
  • Pinnacles National Park: The park is located in California, United States. The park covers over 26,606 acres. Pinnacles National Park was established on 10 January 2013. The park is rich in diversity of wildlife and spring wildflowers.
  • Lassen Volcanic National Park: The park is located in California, United States. The park covers a total area of 106,000 acres. Lassen Volcanic was established as a national park on August 9, 1916. The park has the largest plug dome volcano in the world.
  • Kings Canyon National Park: The park is located in California, United States. The park covers over 461,901 acres. Congress and President Franklin D. Roosevelt established it as national park 4 March 1940. The park is known for Redwood Canyon and  the largest remaining grove of sequoia trees in the world.
  • Joshua Tree National Park: The park is located in  California, United States. The park covers over 790,636 acres. In 1936, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt established Joshua Tree National Park. The park is known for its unique tree which is called Joshua Tree.
  • Death Valley National Park:  The park is located in eastern California and Nevada. Death valley is known for Titus Canyon, colorful rocks, and Badwater Basin’s salt flats Death Valley is the lowest point in North America, At 282 feet below sea level. President Hoover established Death Valley as a national park in February 1933.
  • Channel Islands National Park: The park is located in Ventura, United States. The park covers 249,561 acres. The island was created by tectonic forces, which caused them to rise up out of the ocean millions of years ago. President Franklin D. Roosevelt established Channel Islands as a national park on April 26, 1938.
  • Hot Springs National Park: The park is located in central Garland County, Arkansas. The Park covers a total area of 5,550 acres. President Andrew Jackson established on 20 April 1832. The park is most famous for its hot springs.
  • Saguaro National Park: The park is located in southern Arizona, United States. Saguaro National Park covers a total area of 91,445 acres. Saguaro was established as a national park 14 October 1994.  Saguaro National Park is known for saguaro cactus. These are large, tree-like columnar cacti.
  • Grand Canyon National Park: The park is located in Arizona, United States. Grand Canyon is one of the most visited national parks. Theodore Roosevelt established the Grand Canyon National Park in 1908. The park is known for the  copper-colored Colorado River and the colorful rock layers.
  • Petrified Forest National Park: The park is located in northeastern Arizona, United States..The park covers over 221,391 acres. The park is known for stark moon-like landscapes. Petrified Forest National Park was established by an act of Congress on December 9, 1962.
  • National Park of American Samoa: It is a U.S. territory covering 7 South Pacific islands and atolls. American Samoa consists of 4,500 acres of ocean and coral reefs and 9,000 acres of land. American Samoa was established as a national park on October 31, 1988.
  • Wrangell-St. Elias National Park: Wrangell-St. Elias was established on 1 December 1978. Mount St. Elias is the second highest mountain in both  the United States and Canada. The park covers over 13.2 million acres.
  • Lake Clark National Park: The park is located in southwest Alaska, United States. The Park covers a total area of 4,030,025 acres. Lake Clark is known for Volcanoes steam,, bears forage, salmon run and craggy mountains reflect lakes. Lake Clark National Park was established on 2 December 1980
  • Kobuk Valley National Park: The park is located in Kotzebue, United States. Kobuk Valley National Park covers a total area of 1,669,813 acres. Kobuk Valley National Park was established in 1980. The lowest elevation in the park is 40 feet at Kobuk River.
  • Kenai Fjords National Park: The park is located in Alaska, United States. The park covers a total area of 699,983 acres. The park was established on 2 December 1980. The park has rainforest ecosystems.
  • Katmai National Park: The park is located in southern Alaska, United States. The park covers over 4,093,077 acres. In 1918 President Wilson established Katmai National park. The park is famous for volcanoes, and brown bears. 
  • Glacier Bay National Park: The park is located in Southeast Alaska, United States. The park covers a total area of 3,280,198 acres. Glacier Bay National Park was established on 2 December 1980.
  • Gates of the Arctic National Park: The park is located in northern Alaska, United States. It is the second-largest national park in Alaska. In the 1930s, Robert Marshall established Gates of the Arctic National Park.
  • Denali National Park: The park is located in the central area of the Alaska Range. The park was established on 26 February 1917. Denali National Park is the tallest peak in North America.
