Petrified Forest National Park is located in northeastern Arizona which is about 50 miles from the border of New Mexico on Interstate 40. It is a park with scenic wonders. Petrified Forest National Park is filled with rocky cliffs, Red Basin, and backcountry hikes. It is covered with beautiful trees and vegetation. Entrances to the Petrified Forest National Park
Petrified Forest National Park is divided into north and south between Highway 180 and Interstate 40. There are two entrances to the Petrified Forest National Park, Westbound Interstate 40 and Eastbound Interstate 40. Check out the maps of Petrified Forest National Park.
Westbound Interstate 40
Travelers to the Westbound Interstate 40 should take Exit 311. Then you will have to take a drive for about 28 miles via the national park and have to connect with Highway 180 which is at the south end. You will have to travel for about 19 miles on Highway 180 North to get back to Interstate 40 through Holbrook.
Eastbound Interstate 40
Travelers to the Eastbound Interstate 40 should take Exit 285 into Holbrook. Then you will have to travel for about 19 miles on Highway 180 South to reach the park’s south entrance. You will have to take a drive for about 28 miles north via the park to get back to Interstate 40.
How to reach the Petrified Forest National Park?
By Plane
There are large airports in Arizona and Albuquerque, Phoenix, and New Mexico nearby. And there are also small airports in Arizona and Gallup, New Mexico, and Flagstaff. You will have to rent a car from the airport to go to the park. If you want to take private planes, there is a small airport that lies in Holbrook, Arizona.
By Private Vehicle
Eastern side of greater Phoenix
You will have to travel via Highways 87 North to Payson, 377 North to Holbrook, 180 South to the park, and 260 East to Heber which takes about 215 miles.
North and west side of greater Phoenix
You will have to travel via Interstates 17 North and 40 East, passing through Flagstaff which takes about 259 miles.
Driving from Albuquerque
You will have to travel for about 204 miles west on Interstate 40 to Exit 311.
