Southern Florida’s Biscayne National Park is a popular tourist destination for Americans visiting from the north and west. Biscayne Bay and the barrier reefs that surround it are protected by the park. Ninety-five percent of the park is submerged in water and a vast mangrove forest along the bay’s border. On Elliott Key, which is the park’s biggest and northernmost island and one of the actual Florida Keys, a fossilized coral reef has developed, there are 172,971 acres. The park’s northernmost islands are coral-and-sand transitional islands. The Florida Reef, one of the world’s biggest coral reefs, may be found in the park’s offshore area. It is one of the best national parks for watersports in summer.
Biscayne Bay safeguards a unique assemblage of azure seas, emerald islets, and coral reefs teeming with colorful fish and shells. There’s evidence from ancient cultures to shipwrecks, pineapple growers to presidents, spanning 10,000 years of human history. Entrances to the Biscayne National Park and how to reach it?
At Sir Lancelot Jones Way, Biscayne National Park, 9700 SW 328th Street, Homestead, FL 33033, you’ll find it. The Florida Turnpike and US Highway 1 both lead to the Dante Fascell Visitor Center.
In this direction, from the north
- Take Exit 6 off of the Florida Turnpike (Speedway Boulevard). Turn left at the end of the exit ramp and follow SW 328th Street to the south (North Canal Drive). Follow 328th Street for four kilometres before coming to an end. Located right before the Homestead Bayfront Marina’s entrance on the left, the park’s entry is well marked.
- To get to Homestead, use US Highway 1 south.
- Right on SW 137th Avenue (Speedway Boulevard). SW 328th Street is located five kilometres to the south (North Canal Drive). Continue for four kilometres to the end of the road by turning left. To get to the park, take a left right before the Homestead Bayfront Marina gate.
In this direction, from the south
- Drive north on US 1 to Homestead. Turn right on SW 344th Street (Palm Drive, the last light before the Florida Turnpike entry). Near the Homestead Speedway, the route makes a sharp turn to the north after four miles. On SW 328th Street (North Canal Drive), turn right. Keep on for another four kilometres and you’ll arrive at the end of the street. The park’s entrance is located on the left, immediately before the marina’s entrance.
