  • The entry fee for private non-commercial vehicles with a capacity of 15 or less cost $30 for 7 days.
  • The entry fee for pedestrians or bicycles costs $15 for 7 days.
  • The entry fee for motorcycles costs $25 for 7 days.
  • Annual Pass for Hawaii Volcanoes National Park costs $55.
  • For non-commercial groups in a bus or vehicle with a capacity of 16 persons or more will cost $15 for each person.
  • Children under the age of 15 or younger are exempt from entrance fees.

Things To Do In Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Pu’u Loa Petroglyphs

Puʻu Loa is located on the southern flank of Kilauea volcano, Puʻu Loa translated as the “long hill” from Hawaiian. Puʻu Loa has more than 23,000 petroglyph images.  Pu’u Loa is considered a sacred place to the Hawaiian. It is illegal to touch archaeological sites so you need to stay on the boardwalk when viewing petroglyphs.

Hike To Halemaʻumaʻu Trail:

Halema’uma’u Trail is the must-go 1.7-mile trail. The trail is relatively steep. The path leads to some amazing viewpoints. It also gives a new experience for hikers.

The Kīlauea Iki Crater

The trail is a 3.3-mile loop. It takes approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete the hike. Be careful when you go for a hike. Some of the rocks on the crater floor can be too hot to touch. The trail is challenging with Steep and rocky paths.

Holei Sea Arch

Holei Sea Arch is located at the end of Chain of Craters Road. The Holei Sea Arch is a 90ft high arch created by lava. You get to see the volcanic rock at the edge of the ocean.

Thurston Lava Tubes

If you want to do something interesting in Hawaii Volcanoes you can walk through Thurston Lava Tubes. It is a 600-foot-long cave which is over a 500-year-old lava cave. Going through the Thurston Lava Tubes is an easy hike that takes about 30 minutes.

  • Stay away from the cliffs, rock falls happen often at Hawaii Volcanoes and are unpredictable.
  • Do not enter closed trails, the roads are dangerous. 
  • The volcanic eruptions can change at any time. So make sure you stay on marked trails and overlooks.
  • Wear sturdy close-toed shoes when you go for a hike.
  • Make sure to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.
