Wind Cave National Park

Wind Cave National Park is an American national park located in western South Dakota.  The park was established in 1903 by President Theodore Roosevelt, it was the seventh national park in the US and the first cave to be designated a national park in the world. The park features the world’s largest concentration of rare boxwork formations and unusual formations that resemble a honeycomb. 

The park is 33,970 acres of forest and prairie on the surface that act as a natural sanctuary for wildlife. The cave is one of the world’s longest and most complex maze caves. The cave was created more than 40 million years of water drip. The park is home to wildlife such as bison, elk, pronghorn, mule deer, coyotes, and prairie dogs.

Expenses to Visit Wind Cave National Park:

  • There are no fees to drive through or hike in the park.
  • Garden of Eden Cave Tour:

– $10 for adults 17 and older

– $5 for children ages 6 to 16

– Children 5 and under are free

– $5 for Senior (Golden Age)/Access Passports

  • Natural Entrance Cave Tour: 

 – $12 for adults 17 and older

 – $6 for children ages 6 to 16

 – Children 5 and under are free 

 – $6 for Senior (Golden Age)/Access Passports

  • Fairgrounds Cave Tour Fee: 

 – $12 for adults 17 & older

 – $6 for children ages 6 to 16

 – Children 5 and under are free. 

 – $6 for Senior (Golden Age)/Access Passports.

  • Candlelight Cave Tour Fee: 

 – $12 for adults 17 & older

 – $6 for children ages 8 to 16

 – $6 for Senior (Golden Age)/Access Passports. 

 – Children 5 and under are not permitted.

  • Wild Cave Tour: 
  • $30.00 for adults 17 above

Things to Do in Wind Cave National Park:

  • If you love bird watching you can see large birds of prey in Wind Cave, including turkey vultures, hawks, and golden eagles.
  • Bikes are prohibited on all of the park’s trails and in the backcountry. But you can go for a ride on designated roads  Although bikes are limited to established roads, this is a great activity for those who want to take their time to sightsee in the park.
  • You can go hiking there are more than 30 miles of hiking trails within the boundaries of Wind Cave National Park
  • You can also enjoy camping in Wind Cave’s backcountry.
